FDOT Section 3 Construction Kicks Off with Gopher Tortoise Relocation

November 2017

MOUNT DORA _ The Florida Department of Transportation has kicked off construction on Section 3A/3B with seeking out and removing gopher tortoises, a protected keystone species. Crews have excavated nine of the 16 burrows along State Road (S.R.) 46 from U.S. 441 to near Round Lake Road. So far, three gopher tortoises have been found and relocated.

Crews should finish the process by the end of the week. Otherwise, utility relocations are underway and the contractor, GLF, has been placing advance warning signs along the work zone. Work began Oct. 30 and is expected to finish in early 2020.
