Wekiva Parkway Section 2 Opening Included Activating New SR 46 Traffic Signal

March 2018

(MOUNT DORA, FL) – As part of opening the Central Florida Expressway Authority’s (CFX) final sections of the Wekiva Parkway (State Road 429), crews are scheduled on March 31 to activate a new traffic signal on SR 46 east of Round Lake Road. Drivers should be prepared to stop at the new signal at the interchange ramps.

CFX will celebrate the opening of its final five miles of the parkway on March 31, from 7 a.m. – 10 a.m. The festivities will include a 5K race and Family Fun Run/Walk, environmental and community booths, emergency service and high-tech vehicles, music, speakers and a ribbon cutting ceremony. The new parkway sections will open later that day.

The opening will also mark a major milestone in having more than half of the entire 25-mile parkway open to traffic. This portion of the parkway will provide a crucial expressway connection to SR 46 and communities throughout Lake, Orange and Seminole Counties.

The new parkway sections (2A, 2B and 2C) are located between Kelly Park Road and State Road 46, and between Round Lake Road and County Road 435 (Mount Plymouth Road). Work on the three sections began in 2016 and cost $168 million to construct.
