The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has been honored with a 2023 Best in Construction Award for the Wekiva Parkway section that includes new bridges over the Wekiva River.  The Florida Transportation Builders Association (FTBA) each year highlights those who worked on the most innovative, complex, and impactful projects around the state.

The 6-mile Wekiva Parkway stretch – from Sorrento in Lake County to Sanford in Seminole County - features many of the environmental protections that make the parkway unique. That includes adjacent property purchased for conservation and 1.5 miles of wildlife crossing bridges to help keep people and animals safe.
